NEF 2016 Indiegogo Campaign!

thumb

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/not-enough-fest-edmonton-2016/x/9644394#/

Over the past six months, we’ve been working with generous volunteers to provide support for our musicians, such as practice space, instruments, workshops, skillshares, showcase events and more, all leading up to the festival on May 21st and 22nd. We are super excited for the fest and already have about 10 brand new bands signed up to play! (details and line-up to be posted soon!)
We are grateful for all the support we have received from organizations such as APIRG, Harcourt House Artist Run Centre, the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, Ritchie Community League, and Blackbox Studios inc.as well as the volunteers who have helped endlessly with providing food, creating amazing posters for events, photographing and filming our events. Without their support, this could not be happening. We are now looking to you to help us continue this important work!
If you can afford to help, we would greatly appreciate a donation to help us with the final festival! We are also looking for volunteers and *shares* to get this campaign off the ground.
Check out our Indiegogo campaign and the short video we filmed starring some of your favorite NEF organizers!

Noise Facilitator Profile: Nicole McDonal

~FACILITATOR PROFILE!~

Nicole McDonal

Nicole McDonal started playing music at the tender age of 14 when she was gifted a bass and joined band class halfway through the school year. After being asked by the teacher if nicole knew how to play, she responded with a “HELL YEAH!!!!”. She lied, Nicole didn’t know how to play bass so she secluded herself to her bedroom for the entire night and self taught herself the basics of bass without knowing a single note of theory. The next day in band class, she managed to successfully pluck through Stand by Me, which is probably one of the most recognizable bass riffs in rock ‘n roll history.

Soon after, nicole joined her best friend’s cousin’s band as their bass player. She was the youngest of the band members and once again taught herself the night before their big show at their high school battle of the bands where she blew everyone away with her bass skills! Their band went on to record two albums and went on to play many shows over a period of 2 years.

Fast forward to the summer of 2014, when nicole was gifted a children’s toy and decided to start making noise and taking up space. She found out about not enough fest through friends and that’s when Little Tits was formed. Her love for drum machines and noise reached unproportional heights after finding a Yamaha RX5 on kijiji. Little Tits disbanded after nicole’s instrument sadly bit the electronic dust however, in the silver lining of events, Quantize (http://quantize69.bandcamp.com), nicole’s current noise project was born.

Nicole has since joined the Not Enough Fest organizers and has been instrumental in helping propel q/t/w musicians to new heights in the edmonton music scene as her promo mom/floret duet encourages the use of the Chart!!!

We are so stoked to have such an amazingly talented and gracious human being and friend co-facilitate the noise workshop on sunday!!!!

Upcoming Not Enough Fest Fundraiser Shows!

Recently the promotion crew of NEF (Nicole and Tanisha) asked Edmonton promoters to throw some fundraising shows for us so we can make NEF 2016 happen for you all.

You will all see a few of these fundraisers popping up in the next few weeks! We have asked these shows avoid booking W/Q/T/NB bands, here a little quote we sent out:

“the possibility of help from promoters like yourselves aiding NEF in fundraising efforts. The ways in which we’ve been discussing amongst our organizers pertain mostly to the idea of having shows put on as fundraisers for our events. An important point that has been brought up is that if any of these shows were to be put on, we would like non-w/q/t bands to be on the bills. We have noticed over the past year that w/q/t bands, many from NEF, have a tendency to be tokenized by largely only being booked for fundraising/benefit shows, therefore often going unpaid. That problem does not arise nearly as frequently for non-w/q/t bands.”

Two fundraisers are coming up next week packed with some incredible artists! We are super excited and thank everyone involved for showing tremendous support for NEF!
